Music Lessons

I am looking to inspire, educate and encourage the creative musician in you !!!

I provide music lessons on the following instruments at your home:

guitar, piano, ukulele.

I will be driving to Galloway , Port republic , E.H.T. , Northfield , Linwood , Somers Point , Atlantic City , Ventnor , Ocean City, Upper Township.

About every 8 months or so, students will be invited to perform at local area open mic nights (if available). I’ve found this has proven to be a really exciting and helpful experience.

About Matthew

I fell in love with music at the age of 15, and began learning guitar. I practiced so much that it truly consumed me, somehow managing to practice for 11 hours a day for years! I also began learning piano, at 16, to explore music even further.

My next step along this journey began at 18, inspired by Danny Elfman, I began composing for string instruments. As time went on, I began composing for other instruments as well. Then learning how to use digital and electronic equipment opened up a whole new outlet of creating. I learned how to produce my own sounds by making electronic samples. Recording a sound, editing it , then placing that clip or sample of sound on a keyboard. Texture and tone have become my paint, the ground of my orchestra.

Then came the circuit soldering to create distortions. Instrument building and modifying , to completely make a new sound, my sound. Over the years, I have scored a great amount of films and that was a lesson all onto itself. I used what I had learned and applied it to my own film making explorations. I am truly creating an artistic signature, audio and visual, acoustic and digital. I will continue to explore my art and am excited to see where it leads me. Knowing that it will full fill me, test me, push to be a better person than I am today.

I have been playing guitar for 27 years, and I have had numerous teachers over that time. Learning a wide variety of musical styles in the process. I also attended Berklee college of music in Boston Massachusetts . Additionally, I have played guitar in numerous genres , hip-hop, orchestral pit, jazz groups, and country music settings. I read and write music and have composed for Theater, Dance and numerous films. I have also composed for small music ensembles using a non standard musical score that was created by myself.

Teaching music became a natural progression, since I wanted to not only share my love of music, but also to be able to reach students using not only things I had learned over the years from my various teachers, but also what I have learned through trial and error on how to unlock the hidden artist that lies within all of us. I’ve taught guitar at Stockton University, at local music shops and most recently I’ve begun teaching for myself. I have been teaching guitar, piano and ukulele in the South Jersey area for 18 years, working with students aged 5 – 70 years old and truly love it.
